Alton Wayne Coventon

November 2, 1947 ~ January 12, 2022 (age 74)


Alton Wayne Coventon, 74, beloved father and husband, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2022. He was born on November 2, 1947 in Ada, Oklahoma.

Everyone who knew Wayne knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle and peaceful person, and that he loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dee, son Ryan and wife Kristen of Luther, OK, daughter Robyn, husband Alan and their two children of Leavenworth, KS, and his mother-in-law, Zelma Bratcher of Noble, OK. He will forever be in their hearts and missed very much everyday.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Mona Coventon and Harlin Coventon.

Wayne lived with cancer for the last year and half of his life. He battled the disease with the most amazing grace, bravery and strength. He lived everyday with positivity and determination not to let the disease keep him from doing the things he loved.

Growing up in Ada, Oklahoma, Wayne formed strong attachments to the tight-knit communities he called home and eventually settled in Edmond, OK. He graduated from Ada High School, Ada, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Mathematics from East Central University, Ada, Oklahoma.

He served as the Executive Director and CEO of the Oklahoma City Clinic from 1975-1995, and later served in executive roles as a healthcare administrator until his retirement in 2012. He was recognized as a Fellow with the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Wayne also served on numerous committees for the American College of Hospital Administrators, the Medical Group Management Association, the Oklahoma Medical Group Management Association, Alliance Bank, and the Kansas Medical Group Management Association.

His greatest joys were his family, golfing, and fishing, spending many happy afternoons on the course or on the water. Wayne was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive husband and father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family.
