Charolette Ann Jackson of Sayre, OK, died peacefully on November 4, 2020. She was in the comfort of her daughter’s home in Oklahoma City, OK where she had been living since February 2020.
Charolette was born to William Herbert Hatchett and Fern Josephine (Sewell) Hatchett on October 11, 1942 in Long Branch, New Jersey. Charolette’s family relocated back to Oklahoma when she was about 2 years old. Charolette had fond memories of growing up in many different small towns in Oklahoma including Maramec, Willow, and Elk City as the daughter of an educator and administrator. Charolette graduated from Elk City High School in 1960 and attended 1 year of college at Oklahoma Baptist University. Charolette married and became mother to five children and grandmother to six grandchildren. During her adult life she lived in Elk City, OK, Tulsa, OK and Sayre, OK. Charolette’s work consisted of secretarial positions in local, county and state governments. Charolette retired from 28 years of service as receptionist and secretary with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Beckham County in 2012. Charolette used each of her moves and careers as an opportunity to build rich relationships with people throughout Western Oklahoma, whom she cared for deeply. Charolette enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the history of families in Western Oklahoma. Spending even just a few minutes with her would result in discovering how she knew a person’s family and how that family contributed to the fabric of the community. Her talent for this stretched to check out lines throughout Oklahoma and most recently included her nurses and the valet as she was going through cancer treatments in Oklahoma City. Charolette had a great sense of humor and was a very hard worker, both attributes carrying her through hard times with a smile on her face and the ability to continue treating everyone with kindness. Everyone who met and knew Charolette loved her, and felt known and loved by her as well.
Charolette was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sayre, OK. Upon her retirement she resumed piano lessons, which she said was her favorite thing, and shared her talent by accompanying the Senior Adult Choir as they sang at surrounding nursing homes bringing joy, hope and company to residents. Charolette enjoyed singing in the Adult Choir, spent her time volunteering at the church, taking members to Doctor’s appointments, filling in for her dear friend Mary at The Eagle book store, and having coffee with friends at Denny’s.
Charolette is survived by her children Liz Webb of Edmond, OK, Randy Webb and wife Gayle of Pryor, OK, Glenn Webb of Kent, WA and Ryan Sims and husband Evan of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren Glenn Webb, Jr., Colt Webb, Skyler Webb, Randi Webb, Vivi Sims and Remy Sims; her brother, Bill Hatchett and wife Ruth Ann of Puyallup, WA and her sister Debbie Brown and husband Dennis of Blanchard, OK and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Charolette is preceded in death by her parents William Herbert and Fern Josephine (Sewell) Hatchett, daughter Lynn Webb, sisters Glynn Kalish and Sue Moser.
A memorial for Charolette will be held in the spring of 2021. Charolette’s family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. or to the Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church of Sayre, OK at 504 N. 4th St., Sayre, OK 73662.
