Gayla Joy Mallard (54) passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on August 12, 2020 after losing her long-time battle with COPD.
Gayla was born in Abilene, Texas, on July 31, 1966 to Venita and Arlie Malone. She was raised by her mother Venita and stepfather Clifford Minor. Gayla was a homemaker for most of her life while raising her four children, until she received her CNA license and worked at Abilene State School and Merkel Nursing Home. In her spare time, she loved garage sale-ing, cooking, drinking her coffee, and decorating. But most of all, Gayla loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them as much as she could. She was a friend to everyone she met. Her children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.
Gayla is preceded in death by her biological father Arlie Malone, and father Clifford Minor, both maternal and paternal grandparents, one sister Tammy Malone, and her aunt Christine.
She is survived by her mother Venita Minor; significant other Freddie Paterson; former husband Donald Mallard; son Donnie Mallard and wife Amber Mallard; three daughters Santana Mallard, Chassidy Mallard, and Heather Mallard; three brothers Calvin Minor, Arlie Malone Jr, and Roman Malone; Eight sisters Ladonna and Husband John Lenamon, Sephrina Minor, Lori Minor, Rebecca Ashburn, Terry Hunt, Barbara Malone, Samantha Malone, Shawna Zelinko; Six grandchildren Sunsett Mallard, Loveiyona Mallard, Laikelunn Mallard, Lundrick Mallard, Kail Rivera, and Hayden Rivera; several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
