It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Lee Utesch announce his passing. Gerald passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020 in Oklahoma City.
Born in Le Mars, Iowa on June 12, 1941, Gerald was the son of Donald and Darlene Utesch. He grew up to become a dedicated and decorated police officer with both the Farmington, NM and Aurora, CO police departments. Later, he went on to graduate from Regis University in 1991 with an Associate of Arts degree.
Gerald was very involved with the Alternatives to Violence Project and volunteered with them for many years. He was an active member of the Beulah United Methodist Church in Beulah, CO and was a member of the Men’s Group and Men’s Bible Study group at church. He loved writing, camping, wildlife, dancing, playing cards, and mostly spending time with his loved ones.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Margery Utesch; son Jody Utesch (wife Kim); daughter Suzy Bunch; daughter Heidi Gunn (husband Allen); daughter Sunny Schannchel; stepdaughter Aimee Audette (husband Gary); stepdaughter Jenny Beasley (husband Scott); many grandchildren and some great-grandchildren; his brother Rod; his brother Kurt (wife Debbie); and his brother Tim. He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Darlene Utesch.
Due to Covid-19, a memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Gerald’s memory and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gerald’s name to either the Alternatives to Violence Project, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the National Park Foundation.
