Patsy Sue Sitz Spears, 88, passed away on December 2, 2020 in Guthrie Oklahoma.
Pat was born August 23, 1932 at the family home near Corum, Oklahoma to Jimmie H. Sitz and Irene Box Sitz. Pat graduated from Comanche High School in 1950. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Central State College in 1954, and a Master of Education in Elementary Counseling from East Central University in 1990.
Pat began her teaching career at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City. She went on to hold teaching positions wherever her family lived, finishing her career in Comanche, Oklahoma.
While attending Central State College, Pat met Jay Spears and they married in 1955. Pat and Jay welcomed three children into their lives, Randy, Jayme, and Larry. She was actively involved in her families lives, enjoying many activities including camping, tennis, and horseback riding. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, filing many roles within the church.
Pat returned to her childhood farm in Comanche, Oklahoma in 1978. This allowed her to enjoy time with her extended family. She then moved to Duncan, Oklahoma in 2002. While living in Duncan she made many wonderful friends, especially her Bridge foursome, with whom she shared hours of fun and many adventurous trips. Pat took great pride in her grandchildren, and visiting them was the delight of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jackie H. Sitz, and husband Jay A. Spears. She is survived by her son Randall K. Spears and partner Alison Long of Somerville, Massachusetts, daughter Jayme L. Branch and husband Howard of Guthrie, son Larry D. Spears, and partner Cindy Anderson of San Diego, California, grandson Thomas A. Branch of Guthrie, granddaughter Rachel Black and husband James of Pueblo, Colorado, grandson Eric J. Spears and wife Brittnie of Olympia, Washington, sister-in-law Bettie Sitz, nephew Dayton Sitz and wife Chrissy, nephew Jimmie Sitz, and niece Dianne Sitz.
A private family graveside service will be held in Comanche, Oklahoma at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Pat’s honor to the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church, 2300 Country Club Road, Duncan, Oklahoma 73533.
