On Monday, February 17, 2020, Peggy Ellen (Fowler) Layton passed from this life to join the
God she served so faithfully throughout her long and fulfilling journey on this earth. She was born
December 25, 1929 in Avant, Oklahoma to Benjamin Adolphus Fowler and Margaret Melvina (Wright)
Fowler. She was the youngest of 11 children who moved around frequently as their father worked for the
M, K & T Railroad. They settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Peggy graduated from Daniel Webster High
School. It was there she met her future husband, Charles Mac Layton and they married in Tulsa on June
29, 1951. She was a life-long member of the church of Christ where she served as the wife of a minister
and elder for more than fifty years. She helped her husband in founding two flourishing congregations:
North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City and Deer Creek Church of Christ in Edmond.
She had great style and possessed amazing creativity with many talents from painting to needle
arts to home decorating. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed sharing it with others all through
her life. She was a kind and loyal wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Her final year was spent in
the gentle, loving care of her son, Brian, who without fanfare, enabled her to die peacefully and with
She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her 10 brothers and sisters, her husband of 50
years, Charles Mac Layton, her precious granddaughter Lindy Jane Layton and many of her dearest
friends. She is survived by her son Tim Layton and his wife Susan, her son Brian Layton and his wife
Donna and her grandchildren: Brett Layton and his wife Lisa, Emily, Luke and Jackson.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Creek Church of
Christ, 6225 NW 178th Street, Edmond, Oklahoma.
